Nurse Practitioner
Location: Houston, TX
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Day shifts, PRN/variable schedule; option for half-day (approximately 4 hours) or full-day (approximately 8 hours). Typical assignments are daytime and schedule varies by case (e.g., 2 days/week openings or as assigned). Exact start/end times depend on assignment.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with professionalism and attention to detail
- Conduct interview-based evaluations and focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Complete standardized Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and submit reports within 48 hours
- Document evaluations accurately in the VES provider portal and complete required record review
- Use tools such as a goniometer and perform METs testing when appropriate
- Provide timely administrative follow-up: addendums, medical opinions, and diagnostic reads as needed
- Participate in required training, orientation, and any PEP/QA sessions prior to seeing cases
Qualifications
- Active Nurse Practitioner license in the state(s) you will practice; NP (MSN or DNP) or equivalent training preferred
- Background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine experience with C&P exams
- Familiarity with musculoskeletal conditions, diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory evaluations
- Proficient with range of motion testing, muscle strength testing, goniometer use, and METs testing
- Ability to complete DBQs/standardized forms (training provided) and submit within 48 hours
- Own office required if scheduling Veterans within your practice; willingness to travel to VES facilities if needed
- Own personal laptop required (note: Macs are not accepted)
- Able to complete credentialing paperwork promptly (providers have 48 hours to respond during onboarding)
Education
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) preferred
- Active Nurse Practitioner licensure in applicable state(s)
Knowledge & Skills
- Experience with Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and separation assessments
- Comfort with interview-based clinical exams and focused physical assessments
- Skilled in completing standardized DBQ forms and in timely electronic documentation
- Familiarity with VES provider portal workflows and record review processes
- Good clinical judgment for evaluating respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and musculoskeletal conditions
- Strong organizational skills for follow-up administrative work (addendums, medical opinions)
