Roles & Responsibilities

• Facilitate communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students and school staff using American Sign Language
• Interpret classroom lectures, discussions, and school activities in real time
• Ensure equal access to education by providing accurate and culturally sensitive language services
• Collaborate with teachers and specialists to support student learning and participation
• Adapt interpreting style to various educational contexts, from small groups to assemblies
• Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics in all interactions

Qualifications

• National certification in ASL interpreting (e.g., NIC, CI, CT, or CDI)
• Fluency in American Sign Language and English
• Experience interpreting in educational settings is a plus
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic school team
• Commitment to providing inclusive, accessible communication

Knowledge & Skills

• Expert-level ASL vocabulary and grammar
• Knowledge of deaf culture and community norms
• Listening comprehension and quick mental translation skills
• Ability to manage multiple communication streams simultaneously
• Familiarity with educational terminology and classroom dynamics
