Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert respiratory assessment and bedside care for neonatal and pediatric patients
• Manage ventilators and adjust settings safely using Draeger V800/VN800 and LTV 1200 equipment
• Deliver and monitor high flow nasal cannula, CPAP and BiPAP therapies
• Assist with intubation and extubation procedures and provide suctioning and tracheostomy care
• Troubleshoot high pressure alarms and lead ventilator weaning efforts
• Operate and maintain respiratory devices such as HFNC (Optiflow Jr, Airvo 2), oxygen tanks and nebulizers
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient-centered respiratory plans
• Document care accurately and participate in unit quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• PALS and NRP certifications (preferred/required as noted)
• BLS certification
• Minimum 1 year of pediatric/Neonatal or PICU/NICU respiratory experience (1 year acceptable for first-timers)
• Experience in a Trauma Level II pediatric setting (required); Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Comfort working block schedules and providing every other weekend coverage

Knowledge & Skills

• Ventilator management and mechanical ventilation weaning strategies
• Airway management including intubation assist, extubation and suctioning (ETT/NT)
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), CPAP, BiPAP and Bubble CPAP operation
• Tracheostomy care and trach collar management
• Troubleshooting ventilator alarms and respiratory equipment
• Neonatal and pediatric respiratory equipment familiarity and pediatric critical care principles
• Ability to work collaboratively with respiratory services and multidisciplinary teams
