Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality respiratory care to LTAC patients, tailoring therapy to each patient’s needs
• Assess respiratory status, interpret clinical data, and implement appropriate respiratory interventions
• Manage ventilator settings, perform weaning protocols, and monitor patient progress
• Administer therapies such as inhaled medications, chest physiotherapy, and airway clearance techniques
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and update patient care plans
• Educate patients and families on respiratory equipment use, discharge planning, and disease management
• Document assessments, treatments, and responses accurately and in a timely manner
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and safety

Qualifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist credential (RRT or CRT preferred)
• Active Virginia respiratory therapy licensure or ability to obtain state licensure
• Minimum clinical experience in respiratory therapy; LTAC experience is a strong plus
• Current BLS certification; ACLS or PALS preferred where applicable
• Strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and the ability to work with complex, long-term care patients
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with nurses, physicians, and therapists

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Care or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in ventilator management and weaning protocols
• Knowledge of LTAC patient population and long-term respiratory care needs
• Skilled in arterial blood gas interpretation and pulmonary function assessment
• Competent with airway management, suctioning, and oxygen delivery systems
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and clear clinical documentation
• Ability to provide patient and caregiver education in a compassionate manner
