Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled PCU/stepdown nursing care for adult patients with mixed acuity, including pre- and post-surgical needs
• Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmias and respond appropriately using rapid response/code teams
• Administer and manage IV therapy, central line/PICC care, blood product administration, and arterial/port access
• Follow heparin and insulin protocols, including titration of insulin drips and IV insulin management
• Support respiratory needs including HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, oxygen therapy, tracheostomy and non-invasive airway management
• Perform wound care (including wound vac) and other specialty procedures with attention to infection control and isolation precautions
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, pharmacy, social work, radiology) to deliver comprehensive patient care
• Document accurately in Epic and communicate changes in condition to ensure safe, continuous care

Qualifications

• Current Ohio RN license (required)
• Minimum 2 years of recent progressive care/PCU/Stepdown experience
• BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
• NIHSS certification (required)
• Comfortable charting in Epic (required)
• Ability to float within the OSU organization and accept call as required
• Teaching hospital experience welcomed and considered a plus
• First-time travelers accepted — open to those new to contract assignments

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Rapid response and code team participation
• IV therapy, peripheral IV care, starting and maintaining IVs, and phlebotomy
• Central line, PICC, port access/management, and arterial line care
• Blood product administration and following transfusion protocols
• Heparin protocols, PCA management, and familiarity with cardiac drips (no titration)
• Respiratory support: HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, oxygen administration, chest tube care, trach care
• Wound care and wound vac management, isolation precautions and PPE use
• Feeding tube care, CBI management, and other specialty nursing procedures
