Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care for admitted inpatients and ambulatory oncology patients
• Perform IV therapy, start peripheral IVs, and manage ports and central lines with confidence
• Receive and give shift report for admitted patients and coordinate handoffs
• Assess and manage oncologic emergencies and common symptom issues (nausea, neuropathy, edema, altered mental status)
• Document care accurately in Epic and maintain clear communication with the interdisciplinary team
• Assist with safe patient movement and transfers, including total lift patients, using assistive devices
• Support radiation oncology treatment workflows and collaborate with specialty teams
• Participate in quality and safety initiatives and follow neutropenic and infection-precaution protocols

Qualifications

• Current CA RN license required
• AHA BLS required and ACLS required
• Minimum 3 years RN experience with at least 2 years in acute care (med-surg or ICU) and 1 year oncology experience
• Recent ambulatory experience and comfort caring for both inpatient and ambulatory patients
• Proven IV/infusion skills and ability to start peripheral IVs
• Comfort floating to other UCSF facilities and working across multiple care settings
• Epic EHR experience required
• Preferred: Radiation oncology experience, wound care management, charge nurse experience, oncology certifications (OCN, ONS/ONCC, chemo certification)

Knowledge & Skills

• Neutropenic precautions and infection control practices
• Port and central line care and infusion safety
• Oncologic emergency recognition and initial management (e.g., tumor lysis, anaphylaxis, sepsis)
• Symptom management for nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, dysphagia, constipation/diarrhea, edema
• Radiation therapy concepts and modalities (external beam, brachytherapy, stereotactic therapy, proton therapy)
• Tracheostomy care and safe patient handling/transfer techniques
• Strong clinical charting and communication skills in Epic
• Ability to work with diverse age groups: pediatrics through geriatrics
