Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms to keep patients safe and stable
• Provide high-acuity PCU and med-surg telemetry care for oncology patients with compassion and precision
• Administer and manage IV therapy, blood products, central lines and PICCs following protocols
• Support rapid response and code teams when acute situations arise
• Operate and troubleshoot unit equipment such as GE B450 monitors, Alaris pumps and PCA devices
• Follow strict infection prevention and isolation precautions to protect vulnerable patients
• Document patient care accurately in Epic and communicate clearly with the interdisciplinary team
• Educate patients and families about treatments, procedures and discharge plans with empathy and clarity

Qualifications

• Active RN license (Ohio) required
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required; NIH/NIHSS required
• Oncology experience preferred (2 years preferred but not required); ICU or PCU background welcomed
• Must meet specialty experience requirements in the most recent 3 years with at least 1 year current specialty experience for clinical pass
• Comfort with telemetry, high-acuity PCU patients and variable patient ratios (1:3 PCU; 1:4-5 MedSurg Telemetry)
• Ability and willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity when needed
• Charting experience in Epic required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation
• Progressive care (PCU) nursing and med-surg telemetry care
• IV therapy, central line and PICC management, blood product administration
• Feeding tube care, port access, phlebotomy and wound care/Wound VAC
• Management of non-invasive airway support: BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care
• Interpretation of ABGs and use of rapid response/code teams
• Familiarity with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), Alaris pumps, PCA pumps and continuous bladder irrigation
• Infection prevention practices and patient fall prevention strategies
