Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform sterile vaginal exams independently and confidently, following hard-stop requirements
• Triage obstetrical patients and prioritize care based on clinical urgency
• Continuously monitor fetal status using external and internal fetal monitoring and interpret tracings
• Provide skilled intrapartum care including assistance with vaginal deliveries, forceps/vacuum, and C-section circulation/scrub/recovery
• Manage neonatal care in the delivery room — APGARs, cord sampling, radiant warmer management and initial newborn assessment
• Administer and manage IV therapies, blood products, and infusion drips (e.g., magnesium sulfate, oxytocin, insulin)
• Document care accurately in Epic (charting required) and coordinate interdisciplinary support
• Support postpartum care, breastfeeding/lactation coaching, and couplet care with compassion and expertise

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of California (pending licenses are NOT accepted)
• Minimum ~2 years Labor & Delivery experience (1.5 years is a hard stop; candidates under 2 may be considered depending on experience)
• AWHONN Advanced certification is required (this is a hard-stop PASS requirement)
• Current ACLS, BCLS (BLS) and NRP certifications required
• Proven ability to perform sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision
• Epic charting experience required; Meditech familiarity is a plus
• Comfort and experience assisting with C-sections, neonatal resuscitation, and high-risk deliveries
• Willingness to float to Mother-Baby as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor & Delivery management and antepartum/postpartum care
• External and internal fetal monitoring, IUPC and spiral electrode placement
• C-section assistance (scrub/circulate/recover) and sterile technique
• Neonatal resuscitation and newborn assessment (APGARs, thermoregulation, cord care)
• IV therapy, starting/maintaining IVs, blood administration and infusion pump management
• Medications commonly used in L&D (magnesium sulfate, oxytocin/Pitocin, insulin drips, tocolytics)
• Obstetrical triage and recognition/treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Breastfeeding/lactation support and couplet care principles
