Roles & Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient outcomes and adjust the respiratory plan of care within the multidisciplinary team
• Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients and families about respiratory conditions, treatments and discharge plans
• Deliver respiratory therapies as ordered, maintaining close communication with medical and nursing staff
• Accept reassignment to different units when needed to support patient care
• Share clinical knowledge with staff and students and serve as a role model for best practices
• Plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory care interventions

Qualifications

• RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) certification — required
• Valid Illinois respiratory license — required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) — required
• NRP-MHC certification — required
• Associate's degree in Respiratory Care — required
• Comfort with unit reassignment and working collaboratively across disciplines
• Clinical precepting or mentorship experience is a plus

Education

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Care (required)

• Patient education and clear, compassionate communication
• Interdisciplinary communication and multidisciplinary team collaboration
