Roles & Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise daily operations of the Payroll Department to ensure smooth workflows
• Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for Hospital, Medical Group and District Commissioners
• Manage, mentor and support payroll staff to build a high-performing team
• Participate in payroll processing and reporting to maintain accuracy and transparency
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state payroll laws and regulations
• Provide excellent internal and external customer support and resolve payroll inquiries
• Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll records and sensitive employee data
• Prioritize workload effectively to meet payroll cycles and reporting deadlines

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting — or substantial experience leading a payroll department in lieu of a degree
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and Fundamentals of Payroll Certification expected
• Experience working in a public, unionized environment
• Previous healthcare payroll experience preferred
• Demonstrated experience managing payroll staff and payroll operations
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
• High standard of confidentiality and professional integrity

Education

• Bachelor's in Business Administration or Accounting (or substantial experience leading a payroll department in lieu of degree)

Knowledge & Skills

• Payroll processing and payroll reporting expertise
• Thorough knowledge of payroll compliance and federal/state payroll laws
• Experience in payroll staff management and team leadership
• Customer-focused approach to internal and external payroll support
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines
• Experience in public/unionized payroll environments and familiarity with healthcare payroll nuances
