Roles & Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat adults with a range of communication and swallowing disorders in an inpatient rehab setting
• Perform and interpret MBS studies and provide evidence-based dysphagia management
• Deliver individualized treatment plans using instrumentation such as VitalStim, IOPI, EMST150 and Bioness BITs
• Document assessments, plans and progress clearly and promptly in the EMR
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nursing and therapy team members to optimize patient outcomes
• Provide patient and family education to support safe swallowing and functional communication
• Float to acute hospital units when needed and adapt care to varied clinical environments
• Contribute to unit workflows and support rotating weekend coverage as part of the team

Qualifications

• Active Virginia license for Speech-Language Pathology (required)
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) required
• Minimum 2 years experience working with adult medical inpatient populations
• Demonstrated experience with swallowing evaluation and treatment and MBS studies
• Comfortable using EMR systems and documenting thoroughly
• Preferred: neuro experience and inpatient rehab background
• Patient-focused, team-oriented and flexible with scheduling and floating

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in dysphagia evaluation and management
• Proficient with MBS protocols and interpretation
• Familiarity with VitalStim, IOPI, EMST150 and Bioness BITs
• Strong clinical reasoning and individualized treatment planning
• Excellent documentation skills in EMR
• Effective interdisciplinary communication and patient education
• Ability to manage typical inpatient caseloads and patient ratios
