Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert labor and delivery nursing care for high-risk and routine obstetric patients
• Perform continuous fetal monitoring (EFM) and recognize/treat abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Administer and titrate critical medications including magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, and antihypertensives
• Circulate for Cesarean sections and assist with vaginal deliveries and high-risk deliveries
• Support surgical procedures such as cervical cerclage and D&C when needed
• Document patient care accurately and timely in Epic to support continuity and quality
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (anesthesia, pharmacy, respiratory, PT, etc.) to optimize patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, interventions, and postpartum care with compassion and clarity
• Participate in unit safety, quality improvement initiatives and rapid response when required
• Maintain readiness to work 3x12 shifts reliably and follow facility scheduling and RTO policies

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (pending licenses are not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience — hard stop, no exceptions
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate (AWHONN Advanced preferred)
• Proven ability to circulate in the OR and assist with C-sections
• Experience with fetal monitoring and high-risk antepartum care
• Travel experience required — seasoned travelers only; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Ability to work 12-hour shift patterns (3x12) and accommodate occasional weekend coverage
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication, and teamwork skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in External Fetal Monitoring (EFM) and interpretation of fetal heart tracings
• Medication administration and titration for magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, and antihypertensives
• Surgical circulating skills for C-sections and perioperative support
• Experience assisting with vaginal deliveries, versions and high-risk delivery scenarios
• Epic charting experience for accurate documentation
• Comfort working in a very high-risk, fast-paced L&D unit at a large hospital
• Ability to manage 1:1 or 1:2 patient ratios on both day and night shifts
• Strong assessment, prioritization and emergency response capabilities
