Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare, gross, describe, and dissect surgical pathology specimens with precision and care
• Perform postmortem/autopsy examinations under the direction of pathologists
• Collect, label, and handle specimens accurately to ensure specimen integrity and patient safety
• Enter and maintain accurate records in HIS and LIS systems
• Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation appropriate to the scope of the role
• Exercise independent judgment to schedule, organize, and plan daily work
• Collaborate with pathologists and the laboratory team to support diagnostic workflows
• Follow hospital and laboratory policies to uphold high quality and safety standards

Qualifications

• (PA)ASCP certification required (equivalent certification not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years experience as a Pathology Assistant required
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
• Must provide permanent address at profile upload; facility will not consider travelers who reside within 50 miles of the facility
• Traveler must have reliable personal vehicle for this assignment
• Work history and current Skills Checklist (Pathology Assistant) required
• One supervisory signed reference from within the past two years required
• Ability to work additional hours/shifts as needed and exercise independent judgment

Education

• Bachelor's degree required
• Master's degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Surgical pathology grossing and dissection
• Postmortem/autopsy procedures and protocols
• Specimen handling, collection, and accurate labeling
• Experience with HIS and LIS systems
• Familiarity with assorted laboratory instrumentation
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize under stress
• Attention to detail and commitment to specimen integrity
• Clear communication and teamwork within a pathology/lab setting
