Roles & Responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric evaluations and provide diagnostic impressions to guide treatment
• Prescribe, manage, and monitor psychotropic medications safely and effectively
• Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the mental health team
• Provide clear, timely documentation and maintain accurate medical records
• Consult with multidisciplinary staff to support continuity of care and safety
• Participate in orientation and training to ensure consistent clinical practice
• Deliver compassionate, trauma-informed care to a diverse patient population

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
• Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry preferred
• Active and unrestricted California medical license required or ability to obtain prior to start
• DEA registration (or ability to obtain) for prescribing controlled substances
• Experience in psychiatric assessment and medication management; correctional or forensic experience a plus
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Education

• MD or DO in Psychiatry; completion of accredited residency in Psychiatry

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in psychiatric diagnostic evaluation and evidence-based treatment planning
• Knowledge of psychopharmacology and medication side-effect management
• Ability to work within institutional policies and maintain security-conscious practice
• Comfortable with documentation in electronic medical records and timely charting
• Good clinical judgment, crisis management, and de-escalation skills
