Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on therapeutic interventions and assist patients with mobility, strength, and functional activities
- Implement individualized treatment plans developed by the supervising physical therapist and document patient progress
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety techniques, and recovery expectations
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care
- Monitor patient responses to treatment and report changes or concerns to the physical therapist promptly
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and assist with equipment setup and safety checks
Qualifications
- Active or eligible for a California PTA license (required prior to working independently as applicable)
- Completion of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Previous experience in outpatient or acute rehab settings preferred
- Strong communication skills and a patient-centered approach
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements
Education
- Associate degree from an accredited PTA program (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in therapeutic exercise, gait training, transfers, and assistive device instruction
- Knowledge of documentation standards and electronic medical records
- Familiarity with modalities commonly used in physical therapy practice
- Ability to assess patient mobility, balance, and functional limitations
- Good clinical judgment, time management, and teamwork skills
