Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including feeding, bathing, ambulating and skin care
- Take and record initial vital signs and weights, and report any changes promptly to the Supervisor/Charge Nurse
- Monitor and document intake and output in accordance with unit standards and physician orders
- Follow universal precautions consistently to ensure a safe environment for residents and staff
- Maintain resident/patient privacy and confidentiality and support resident rights
- Work collaboratively with the RN/LPN team to deliver care per the plan of care
- Provide orientation and support to residents, patients and families about unit services
- Demonstrate empathy, effective listening and professionalism when interacting with residents and families
Qualifications
- Active Maine C.N.A. license required
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
- Ability to take initial vital signs and provide weights in a timely manner
- Comfort working under RN/LPN supervision and following care plans
- Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to follow universal precautions and maintain patient confidentiality
Education
- Active Maine C.N.A. license / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Knowledge & Skills
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) assistance
- Vital signs measurement
- Intake and Output (I&O) monitoring and documentation
- Universal precautions and infection control
- Patient confidentiality and privacy practices
- Feeding, bathing, ambulating and basic skin care techniques
- Empathy, teamwork, communication and flexibility in a clinical setting
- Ability to observe, report and document changes in patient condition
