Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide thorough evaluations and evidence-based treatment for communication disorders and dysphagia
- Conduct and interpret modified barium swallow studies and integrate findings into treatment plans
- Develop individualized therapeutic plans with clear short- and long-term functional goals
- Collaborate with residents, caregivers, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team to optimize care and discharge planning
- Educate residents and caregivers on strategies, assistive device use, and safe swallowing techniques
- Document all evaluations, interventions, and resident responses clearly and promptly per department protocols
- Recommend, obtain, and instruct on appropriate communication and swallowing assistive devices
- Lead in-services and training to share clinical knowledge with nursing and other departments
- Maintain and promote department cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and infection control practices
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology required
- Valid Speech & Language Pathologist license for Massachusetts required
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
- Prior experience in long-term care or a skilled nursing facility preferred
- Strong documentation, time-management, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and meet physical demands of the role
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Assessment and treatment of communication disorders
- Dysphagia management and modified barium swallow (MBS) proficiency
- Medicare, Medicaid, and reimbursement regulations knowledge
- Skilled documentation and therapeutic treatment planning
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
- Caregiver education and assistive device recommendations
