Roles & Responsibilities
- Maintain efficient clinic flow for patients and providers, ensuring timely and organized care
- Assist providers with patient examinations, treatments and clinic procedures within scope of practice
- Perform patient assessments and administer medications as ordered by the provider
- Collect, prepare, and process specimens accurately and in a timely manner
- Document patient encounters and clinical information thoroughly in the medical record
- Manage phone triage and incoming patient communications with professionalism
- Support teamwork by collaborating with providers and clinic staff to deliver excellent patient care
Qualifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a current Iowa nursing license
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required (new hires may certify within 3 months)
- Preferably 3 years clinical experience in acute or ambulatory care (preferred, not mandatory)
- Experience in acute care, ambulatory care, home health, cardiac or diabetic care is a plus
- Comfort with phone triage, ER triage or MD office triage and strong telephone communication
- Able to think, converse, and type simultaneously while maintaining excellent customer-focused skills
- Membership in a professional organization or specialty certification is highly desired
Education
- Graduate of an accredited LPN program (RN graduates considered as indicated in job summary)
Knowledge & Skills
- Clinic/ambulatory nursing workflows and patient assessments
- Medication administration and safe handling practices
- Accurate patient documentation and electronic medical record familiarity
- Specimen collection and preparation procedures
- Basic PC skills and comfort with Windows operating systems
- Strong telephone communication and multi-tasking abilities
- Teamwork, organization, and the ability to work effectively under pressure
