Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing with accuracy and care
- Process and monitor cultures, perform gram stains and blood culture workups in Microbiology when assigned
- Conduct blood bank testing and maintain strict quality and safety standards
- Perform phlebotomy and ensure proper specimen collection and labeling
- Follow Covid and infection control protocols including PPE and isolation room procedures
- Prioritize tasks, multitask effectively and make independent decisions when working alone
- Communicate results and concerns clearly with clinical staff and supervisors
- Fill scheduled Thursday night shifts, rotate weekends and support holiday coverage as needed
Qualifications
- Graduated from an approved Medical Laboratory program (required)
- MT or MLT certification or equivalent training preferred
- Proven phlebotomy proficiency
- Experience with blood bank testing
- Microbiology experience preferred; must be comfortable with gram stains, plating cultures and blood cultures
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to work rotating weekends, occasional holidays and night shifts
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist program (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Hands-on Microbiology techniques including gram stains and culture workups
- Blood bank testing procedures and quality control
- Phlebotomy best practices and specimen handling
- Infection prevention and PPE protocols, including Covid-specific measures
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and documentation
- Attention to detail, time management and prioritization skills
