Roles & Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and reprocess reusable surgical instruments to ensure patient safety
- Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize instruments and trays according to policy and standards
- Assemble and prepare instrument trays, sterile linens, and supplies for cases
- Distribute reprocessed supplies and assist with pulling case carts for surgical teams
- Support inventory control efforts in Surgery to keep supplies accurate and available
- Assist with safe transport of patients and equipment between departments as needed
- Collaborate with the Sterile Tech Lead and Surgery Services Nurse Manager to maintain quality and efficiency
Qualifications
- Previous experience in sterile processing or surgical instrument reprocessing preferred
- Certification such as CRCST or CIS preferred but not always required — willingness to obtain is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to infection prevention standards
- Ability to follow written procedures and work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Comfort with physical aspects of the role: standing, lifting, and handling instruments
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of a Sterile Processing program or related coursework preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of sterilization processes and instrument handling
- Familiarity with case cart preparation and sterile tray setup
- Basic inventory control and stock rotation skills
- Ability to operate cleaning and sterilization equipment safely
- Good communication and teamwork in a multidisciplinary setting
