Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate perioperative charge desk operations during your shift to ensure smooth patient flow
- Assign and support nursing staff, balancing patient needs and team workload
- Serve as the clinical resource for bedside nurses, surgeons, and ancillary teams when complex situations arise
- Communicate effectively with OR teams, scheduling, and leadership to keep cases moving and patients safe
- Monitor unit census, acuity, and resource needs to make timely operational decisions
- Document charge nurse activities and handoffs clearly to maintain continuity of care
Qualifications
- Current California Board of Registered Nursing licensure (required)
- Current CPR, ACLS certifications (required)
- Minimum one year of current perioperative charge nurse or relief charge nurse experience (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field (preferred)
- Two or more years of critical care experience (preferred)
- CNOR certification (desired) — a nice-to-have that demonstrates OR expertise
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong perioperative nursing knowledge and charge desk experience
- Clinical decision-making and triage skills under pressure
- Excellent communication and team leadership abilities
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize patient safety
- Familiarity with perioperative workflows and OR scheduling
