Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and set up the operating room with required instruments and equipment before procedures
- Maintain strict sterile technique and ensure the sterile field is protected throughout surgery
- Assist with patient positioning, surgical prepping, and draping for adult and pediatric patients
- Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments efficiently during procedures
- Verify functionality of equipment and troubleshoot or report issues before surgery
- Perform instrument counts and document procedural supplies accurately
- Support a wide range of surgical specialties including General, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, OB/GYN, Urology and more
- Participate in rotational scheduling and on-call coverage for nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Qualifications
- Completion of an approved Surgical Technologist training program accredited by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST), OR equivalent on-the-job clinical training or military specialty
- Must obtain certification per facility policy: NBSTSA (CST) or NCCT credentialing as applicable (follow facility timelines for certification)
- Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association throughout employment
- Comfortable working in a culturally diverse environment serving Navajo, Hopi and other communities
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and provide on-call coverage (nights, weekends, holidays)
Education
- Completion of AST-accredited Surgical Technologist program OR on-the-job clinical training or relevant military training
- BLS certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
- Ability to set up OR rooms efficiently and verify equipment readiness
- Familiarity with perioperative procedures across multiple specialties
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced OR setting
- Attention to detail for counts, documentation and patient safety
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work respectfully within Native American communities
