Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide thorough pediatric PT assessments, develop individualized plans of care, and deliver evidence-based treatments that improve function
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, families, and schools to coordinate care and discharge planning
- Document evaluations, progress notes, and treatment plans accurately and timely according to hospital policy
- Train and supervise support staff, students, and caregivers to promote continuity of care
- Fit and educate patients on durable medical equipment and adaptive devices to maximize independence
- Participate in quality improvement, program development, and community outreach initiatives
- Deliver patient and family education, including clear home exercise programs and safety guidance
- Be prepared for occasional off-site visits, community clinics, and remote travel to serve patients across the region
Qualifications
- Active Alaska Physical Therapist license required at time of submission
- Pediatric physical therapy experience is a must
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Willingness to submit two fingerprint cards at time of acceptance and have required immunizations (including flu)
- Ability to travel occasionally to remote locations by boat or small aircraft
Education
- Entry-level qualifying Master’s or Doctorate in Physical Therapy from an accredited program
- Or APTA-approved Baccalaureate in Physical Therapy plus 2 years of relevant experience and continuing education
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of musculoskeletal physiology, gait, strength, and developmental motor skills
- Skilled in pediatric assessment tools and selection of appropriate standardized tests
- Experience developing and implementing therapeutic interventions and home programs
- Proficiency fitting and training with orthoses, splints, seating systems, and durable medical equipment
- Familiarity with billing mechanisms (Medicare, Medicaid, third-party payers) and documentation for reimbursement
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain complex PT concepts in plain language
- Comfortable using technology: EMR, tablets, laptops, and telehealth/video conferencing
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse patients, families, and community partners
