Roles & Responsibilities

• Room patients and collect accurate medical histories to prepare providers for efficient visits
• Perform point-of-care testing (POCT) and document results in the EMR
• Provide immunizations and injections within scope of practice and per provider orders
• Perform specimen collection and phlebotomy following labeling and transport protocols
• Set up equipment and assist providers with minor procedures and routine exams
• Monitor ECG/cardiac machines and operate manual defibrillator as needed
• Transport patients safely within the facility and assist with patient mobility
• Lead and mentor Clinical Assistant I/II staff to maintain smooth clinic operations
• Maintain accurate, timely EMR documentation and assist with provider orders and data entry
• Recognize and respond appropriately to signs or symptoms requiring urgent attention

Qualifications

• National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) — required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification — required
• Minimum 1 year of healthcare experience in a clinic or ambulatory setting
• Phlebotomy and POCT experience preferred
• Ability to operate EKG machines, cardiac monitors and manual defibrillators
• Strong communication, customer service and EMR documentation skills
• Nursing degree accepted in lieu of CMA certification per job posting
• Willingness to complete required fingerprint/background processing prior to start

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required OR Nursing degree from an accredited institution may substitute

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with EMR documentation and medical databases
• Knowledge of clinic workflows, age-appropriate vital signs and patient rooming
• Experience with specimen collection, labeling and transport procedures
• Familiarity with immunization schedules and administration techniques
• Comfortable operating medical equipment: blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeters, EKGs
• Ability to recognize emergency situations and perform basic life support when certified
• Good organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a busy clinic
