Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality occupational therapy services under the supervision of an OTR, helping patients regain independence in daily activities
- Implement and document individualized treatment plans and progress toward functional goals
- Deliver therapeutic interventions and adaptive technique training for activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and optimize outcomes
- Educate patients and caregivers on home programs, adaptive equipment, and safety strategies
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record and follow facility protocols
- Ensure a safe, therapeutic environment and adhere to infection control and safety guidelines
Qualifications
- Active COTA license or certification in New Jersey (required)
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willing to obtain)
- Previous experience in outpatient, inpatient, or rehab settings preferred (1+ year preferred)
- Strong communication skills and a patient-centered approach
- Ability to follow supervision and collaborate with OTR and interdisciplinary team
Education
- Associate degree or certificate as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of occupational therapy interventions for ADLs, fine motor, and adaptive equipment
- Experience with patient transfers, therapeutic positioning, and safe handling techniques
- Comfortable with documenting treatment progress in electronic medical records
- Strong clinical reasoning, time management, and patient education skills
- Team player attitude and ability to adapt to changing patient needs
