Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing function using evidence-based evaluations
- Develop individualized treatment plans that focus on meaningful functional goals
- Deliver compassionate therapy interventions to improve communication and swallowing safety
- Collaborate with nursing, rehab, and family members to support holistic patient care
- Document progress clearly and timely in the facility EHR, meeting regulatory and payer requirements
- Educate patients, families, and staff on strategies to carryover gains and ensure safety
- Participate in care planning and discharge recommendations to promote continuity
Qualifications
- Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in Maine (or eligible to obtain Maine license)
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology required
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred but not required
- Facility experience in skilled nursing, acute care, or rehabilitation preferred
- Current CPR and required immunizations/health screenings per facility policy
- Willingness to complete background checks and standard onboarding requirements
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (MS or MA) required
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in dysphagia assessment and management
- Strong behavioral and cognitive-communication intervention skills
- Comfortable with documentation in electronic health records
- Excellent interpersonal and interdisciplinary communication
- Knowledge of Medicare/rehab documentation standards and regulatory expectations
- Ability to create practical, functional goals that matter to patients
