Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (Day shift). Alternative option: four 10-hour day shifts (traveler’s preference; start/end times per facility). Includes 2-3 days of call per week; weekend call begins at the end of your shift Friday and runs through Monday at 7:00 AM. Possible holiday call rotation.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile field for CVOR and open-heart procedures, ensuring patient safety at every step
• Assist surgeons and the CVOR team during complex cardiac cases using expert instrument handling and sterile technique
• Manage and process surgical instrumentation and support central sterile processing practices
• Float to and assist in General Surgery when CVOR volume is low, staying flexible and team-minded
• Perform accurate counts, document procedures, and communicate critical information to the care team
• Respond promptly and professionally when on-call, supporting urgent cases through weekend and holiday coverage
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by sharing observations and suggestions for workflow enhancements

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Minimum of 2 years current or very recent Open-Heart/CVOR experience (required)
• CST certification preferred but not required
• Comfortable floating to General Surgery and participating in call coverage (2-3 days/week)
• Strong critical thinking, communication skills, and attention to sterile technique and instrumentation

Education

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in CVOR/Open Heart procedures and cardiac instrumentation
• Solid knowledge of sterile technique and central processing
• Proficient surgical instrumentation handling and counts
• Ability to function independently and as part of a multidisciplinary OR team
• Adaptability to changing case volumes and call demands
• Clear communication and documentation skills under pressure
