Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing open heart procedures
• Prepare and maintain a sterile CVOR environment, anticipating surgeon needs
• Assist the surgical team during cardiac procedures, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes
• Respond to Open Heart call and provide reliable coverage when scheduled
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate perioperative care and patient handoffs
• Document care accurately and educate patients and families on perioperative expectations
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and mentor newer team members

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure required (eligible candidates considered)
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room experience required
• Cardiac open-heart surgical experience required
• Perioperative/CVOR experience required; on-call availability expected
• BSN preferred; candidates willing to obtain a BSN within three years can be considered

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; commitment to obtain within three years may be accepted

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of perioperative nursing and CVOR protocols
• Familiarity with open heart surgical procedures, instruments, and equipment
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork in high-acuity surgical settings
• Ability to function calmly under pressure and during on-call situations
• Commitment to patient-centered care and adherence to safety standards
