Job Summary and Qualifications

The Oncology RN oversees and directs the care of the patient with hematologic/oncologic diagnosis. The Oncology RN is responsible for the care of medical and surgical patients. Serves as primary nurse leading the collaboration of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Oversees and directs the care of assistive personnel, maintaining final accountability for the care given to assigned patients. Within the first year the RN will have gained basic clinical knowledge and skills of caring for hematology/oncology patients.

·       Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license

·       BLS – Healthcare provider

·       ONS chemotherapy provider card required within the first 9 months of hire

·       ACLS and OCN preferred

·       Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

·       BSN preferred

 

·       One year experience in acute care preferred

Types of Services: Considered a PCU treating patients with leukemia and lymphoma

Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:3 or 1:4

# of Beds per Unit: 18

Shift: Full Time – Nights – 7 PM – 7 AM, 4 weekend shifts/months. Must be on nights for 6 months following orientation at a minimum. Can then be considered to move to Days.

 

Culture of the Facility/Unit: 40 People on Unit (including PCTs, Externs, and RNs). Very compassionate and welcoming. Nurses have lots of autonomy, standing orders and order sets. The RNs have their own social workers, case managers, finance people, palliative care. Lots of resources for the patients.
