Role Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in providing comprehensive care to individuals with mental health and behavioral disorders. As a Behavioral Health RN, you will play a crucial role in assessing, planning, and implementing therapeutic interventions to support the mental and emotional well-being of our patients.
Responsibilities:

Patient assessment and care planning: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' mental health status, including psychological, emotional, and social factors. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop individualized care plans that address patients' unique mental health needs.

Medication management: Administer and monitor psychotropic medications as prescribed, ensuring compliance with established protocols. Observe patients for any side effects or adverse reactions and promptly report concerns to the healthcare team.

Crisis intervention and de-escalation: Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage patients experiencing emotional distress or behavioral challenges. Implement preventive strategies to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

Therapeutic interventions: Engage patients in individual and group therapy sessions, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques. Foster a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere to encourage patients' active participation in their treatment.

Patient education and support: Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies. Offer emotional support and guide patients through their journey towards recovery and improved mental health.

Safety and risk assessment: Conduct ongoing safety and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop appropriate safety plans for patients at risk of self-harm or harm to others.

Documentation and record-keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed electronic medical records, documenting all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions. Ensure timely and thorough documentation in compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.

Collaborative care and interdisciplinary communication: Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic and integrated care. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and collaborate on treatment plans.
Requirements:
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in IA
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Behavioral Health RN, preferably in an inpatient or outpatient behavioral health setting
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles, therapeutic techniques, and mental health disorders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide compassionate care in a dynamic and diverse behavioral health environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (RN-BC)
- Experience with electronic medical record systems
