Position: Per Diem CNA
Location: Lexington, NC
A per diem Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a healthcare professional who provides basic care and assistance to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN). They typically work on an as-needed basis, filling in shifts or covering staffing shortages.
Responsibilities:
- Patient Care: Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Vital Signs Monitoring: Measure and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate.
- Mobility Assistance: Help patients with mobility and transfers, such as walking, using assistive devices, or repositioning them in bed.
- Patient Safety: Maintain a safe environment for patients by preventing falls, using proper body mechanics, and implementing infection control protocols.
- Documentation: Accurately document patient information, including ADL assistance, vital signs, intake and output, and changes in condition.
- Communication: Report any changes in patients' conditions or concerns to the supervising nurse and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Comfort Measures: Provide comfort measures to patients, such as turning and positioning them to prevent pressure ulcers and ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
- Patient Support: Offer emotional support and companionship to patients, demonstrating empathy and compassion.
- Equipment and Supply Management: Maintain and organize patient care supplies and equipment, ensuring they are in proper working order.
Qualifications:
- CNA Certification: Hold a valid and current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Education and Training: Completed an accredited CNA training program and passed the required competency exam.
- Basic Nursing Skills: Proficient in providing basic nursing care, including assisting with ADLs, measuring vital signs, and providing comfort measures.
- Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals in a fast-paced environment.
- Compassion and Empathy: Show compassion, empathy, and a patient-centered approach in delivering care.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to accurately document patient information and observe changes in condition.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work on a per diem basis, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the employer's needs.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, lift, and perform physical tasks required in patient care.
